The Clay County Genealogical and Historical Society exists to collect and preserve the county’s genealogical and historical records and to help those who want to do research for whatever reason. Toward that end we have a wide and extensive variety of resources (click on “Resources” in the main menu or in the box below to browse what’s available) to help visitors to our library.
Our volunteer staff includes at least two people at all times who are knowledgeable or downright expert at helping the visitor find what he or she is looking for. The sheer volume of our research material can be intimidating to the faint hearted, but our volunteers will usually manage to steer the researcher in the right direction in order to maximize his or her time at the office.
We generally do not do research for someone from afar; arrangements can be made on an individual basis, but “look-ups” and the like are not services ordinarily provided. When someone shows up at the office, however, all attempts will be made to assist.
We are located on the top floor of the Clay County Public Library, with our own entrance from the alley in back. Office hours are 9 to 3 Thursdays and Fridays and by special arrangement for members on other days. Our phone number is 606-598-5207.
