The Clay County Genealogical and Historical Society is funded entirely by dues ($18 per year), book sales (insignificant in the larger scheme of things) and donations. Without donations we’d have to tighten our belts considerably.
The Clay County Circuit Court Clerk, James Phillips, visited the office recently and plopped down a check for $500, no strings attached. That’s the kind of thing we’d like to see more of. Mr. Phillips explained he was showing his gratitude for the Society’s efforts in preserving and publicizing Clay County’s history. Others who have sent checks ranging from $50 to $100 recently have said the same thing as well as thanking us for gathering and making available the genealogy of the county’s people, no matter where they may be. Thank you to all our members who have sent donations no matter what the amount.
We will of course accept gifts with strings attached, i. e. money earmarked for specific purposes, such as our proposed pioneer village and museum, office equipment (we need a professional grade copier in the worst way) or for additional interpretive signs for the History Pavilion.
Since we are a non-profit organization, your gifts are tax deductible. Thanks for your consideration.
We also solicit donations of material for our Society library and proposed museum. Speaking of Mr. Phillips above, he also donated us three log buildings valued at around $20,000. Now we need money to move the buildings to our historic site that has been donated to the Society by the City of Manchester.
